Welcome
Welcome back to Ric. He may have lost 20 pounds in his recent battle to return to health, but he hasn’t lost his sense of humor. District Conference
Linda Gilbert reported on the District Conference held at the Davis Center in Burlington on June 11 and 12. President John Beal was unexpectedly not able to attend, so Linda brought the Presidential Citation that was awarded to the club and made the presentation at the club meeting. Charlotte Shelburne Rotary was one of 18 clubs (of the 40 in the District) to receive the award.
The award is based on club service, vocational service, community service and international service. Congratulations to the Charlotte-Shelburne Rotary Club and to President John Beal, under whose leadership the award was received.
Sergeant at Arms
Don Condon offered advice on retirement planning, with reports on the pros and cons of retirement destinations ranging from Maine to Florida.
Anniversaries: John and Sharon Beal, Robert Maynes, Bill Deming and Michael and Michele Lash.
Happy fines:
- Gary Bergeron – pin fine
- Alan Hathaway – Ric’s back
- Dennis Webster – Ric’s back
- Paat Sokolowski – her daughter had her 18th birthday
- Terry Kennaugh – friends visiting
- Ric Flood – happy to be here (!), the experience reinforced his conviction that he is married to the most wonderful woman in the world – and reports of the Bowl-a-thon indicate that the food was great, the money came in and Rotary is a hell of an organization that can pick up the slack in an emergency and make everything go smoothly
- Don Condon – great golf at the Essex Tournament
- Linda Schiavone – happy to see Ric
- Mike Clapp – glad Ric is back – and a tribute to Doris Maeck
- Joyce Errecart – Welcome back, Ric
- John Hammer – Mozart going well – Habitat for Humanity home in Charlotte having ground breaking at site across the Old Lantern – with jazz – the house will be solar powered.
- Tod Whitaker – his grandson graduated from 8th grade
- John Beal – his son was home for a visit – celebrating anniversary
- Adam Bartsch – talking to Julie Won, a former member, who reports that she’s enjoying California
- Joan Lenes – their niece from Austria is coming to visit
- Sharon Beal – also having an anniversary – and her son was also home for a visit -- glad to see Ric and Tina
- Linda Barker – met GSE team from Russia
- Robert Maynes – pin fine
- Terrell Titus – pin fine – welcome to Ric – impressed that after what he has been through, his hair is still red – must be natural! – and thanks to golf team mates
- Linda Gilbert – welcome to Ric and Tina – breakfast at the Inn at Shelburne Farms – taking her grandchildren to visit the Farm (from the tractor drawn wagon ride, to the fun of see the international group of children from Burlington schools on the wagon with them – new to Vermont and speaking many languages) – Shelburne Farms is something we tend to take forgranted – it’s a treasure
- Tina Flood – the website was beneficial to her when Ric was sick, both the writing about the experience, and receiving words of encouragement
- Ric Flood – remembering that while he was in the ICU waiting for surgery, heavily sedated, he woke up to see his wife, two daughters and sister sitting near and looking sad and thinking, “This is serious … I guess I don’t have the flu.”
Lucky draw: John Hammer’s number was drawn, but the $474 pot rolls over to another week.
Committees met – administration, program and public relations.
