Rotary Thought

Rotary is a volunteer organization with 33,000 clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas. It initiates humanitarian projects that address today’s challenges affecting the world today, such as hunger, poverty, and illiteracy.

Rotary club members represent a cross-section of business and professional leaders around the world. These 1.2 million men and women donate their expertise, time, and funds to support local and international projects that help people in need and promote understanding among cultures. Sponsored by Judy Christensen, Rosalie received her membership pin from Membership Chair Debby Hanley and the plaque with The 4-Way Test from President John Beal. She works with her husband as a manufacturer’s representative for outdoor sporting equipment such as kayaks and climbing gear. Before her work as a manufacturer’s representative she was a political lobbyist and public relations consultant in District of Columbia and with the State Department.

Happy fines:

Everyone was happy to learn that Ric Flood is making progress in his recovery at Fletcher Allen Health Care following open heart surgery and a staph infection.

  • John Hammer – a late fine – and he didn’t put his boat in the water yet
  • Trafton Crandall – his time babysitting his grandchildren is over
  • Joyce Errecart – sad that she is not currently  babysitting her grandchildren
  • Sharon Beal – their boat is in the water – and they finally have a motor boat
  • Debby Hanley – the Shelburne Wind Ensemble will play a concert on Thursday, May 20 with music from their Disney World visit
  • Robert Maynes – his birthday – and his mother’s 90th birthday
  • Kris Engstrom – a new airforce 1st lieutenant in the family
  • George Schiavone – must be happy about something
  • Linda Gilbert – Spain was wonderful – she took her Rotary pin and never saw anything about Rotary until the last day when she saw a fund-raising barrel for Polio Plus in the airport.
  • Colleen Haag – a lady came into her town office with her brother who was visiting from Warrensburg, Mo. and wanted to give Charlotte Shelburne Rotary his club banner
  • Chuck LaClair – photo voltaic panels on the roof of his house – so now your electricity is coming from his house – thanks for the $11,000 from the state for the project – and he just bought his first new personal car.
  • Linda Barker – scoot fine
  • Jim Spadaccini – visited family in Buffalo – where his grandson babysat him
  • Tod Whitaker – he has a new beehive – and it’s buzzing
  • Denny Bowen – a pin fine
  • Alan Hathaway – two of the three scholarship winners will be at the next meeting of Rotary
  • Gary Bergeron – a pin fine
  • Michael Lash – a trip to Nashville to see his daughter graduate – and she has a job.

Lucky draw: With $399.50 in the pot, Carol Obuchowski’s number was drawn but she chose the wrong card and missed the pot.

Club Assembly

Bowl-a-Thon

Several people are stepping forward to take responsibility for part of the planning for the bowl-a-thon. It isn’t too late to send out letters to friends and neighbors asking for support for the bowl-a-thon which will be held on Friday, June 4 beginning at 6 p.m. If you want to send out letters, send your list of names to John or Ric’s office. It’s going to be a fun evening with a remarkable meal, and bowling that doesn’t get too serious.

District Conference

The District Conference will be held on June 11 and 12 at the Davis Center at UVM.  Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Census Sheet

Linda Gilbert who will be president beginning in July circulated a census sheet she has been asked to complete. She and Debby Hanley have been talking about the idea of getting t-shirts or perhaps hats for members to wear when they are working on special community projects.

Let’s all keep Ric in our prayers. Get well soon, Ric.
