Charlotte Shelburne Rotary Club

Wednesday, April 21, 2010, 7:30 p.m.

Trinity Episcopal Church Community Room

Welcome

Welcome back, President John Beal – and thank you to Linda Gilbert and Steve Dates for leading our meetings while he recuperated from shoulder surgery.

BOWL-A-THON IS COMING!!

THIS IS PRINTED IN CAPITAL LETTERS TO CATCH YOUR ATTENTION IF YOU HAVEN’T SENT YOUR LIST OF PEOPLE WHO MIGHT SUPPORT THIS VERY IMPORTANT FUND-RAISING EVENT FOR THE CLUB.

AND THE CHANCES ARE VERY GOOD THAT YOU HAVEN’T – BOWL-A-THON ORGANIZER RIC FLOOD (MASTER OF THE MAIL MERGE SYSTEM FOR GETTING LETTERS OUT TO THE PEOPLE ON YOUR LIST) SAYS THAT CURRENTLY HE HAS RECEIVED ONLY 9 LISTS!!

SENDING YOUR LIST TO RIC, OR HANDING IT IN AT THE MEETING, WILL BE KEY TO MAKING THIS THE FUND-RAISER THAT IT COULD BE

– AND IT’S EASY!!

Rotary Thought

Check out the story in the current Rotarian magazine about the impact of a Rotary-supported art project that has helped to expand the horizons of local children in one of the most challenging school districts in the country.

Announcements

President John expressed his appreciation to Nurse Sharon and the club for their good wishes.

  • 4/28 – Speaker Peter Delaney of Run Vermont
  • 6/4 – Bowl-a-thon
  • 6/11-12 – District Conference

Bowl-a-Thon

Ric Flood announced that he recieved his first Bowl-a-thon check - $1,600 from Tom Glaser. The mailing will go out to everyone we are asking for support, all the names you have provided to Ric and his office, about May 10 – that means that he needs lists of name really soon to get them mail merged and the letters ready for us to sign and send. PLEASE, HURRY!!

Steve Dates announced that three Rotary Districts are having their conferences in Burlington and they will need help. He will circulate sign-up sheets at the next meeting and we will also appeal by email.

Sergeant at Arms

Don Condon said thank you to Kris Engstrom for filling in while he was unavailable. He assessed late fines for Carol Obuchowski and Debby Hanley.

Happy fines:

  • John Hammer – Mozart Festival website is up and running.
  • Gary Marcotte – seeing the Dubrul balloon up this morning
  • Debby Hanley – her daughter was in the VYO concert
  • Linda Gilbert – simple pleasures – skipping stones at Charlotte Beach with her grandson
  • Ric Flood – TD Bank dissolved wealth management
  • Jim Spadaccini – just happy
  • Steve Dates – the magic of Kris’ acupressure when he pulled a back muscle
  • Sharon Beal – John’s surgery successful with no problems – Kris’s delivery of flowers and nice visit – Trafton staying with them during the 12-hour surgery
  • Trafton Crandall – having “the leader” back
  • Sue McLellan – excellent RYLA choices
  • Bill Root – tennis time – the nets are up and the championship begins
  • Michael Clapp – the town graded Orchard Road
  • Alan Hathaway – happy
  • Howard Seaver – happy people are suing
  • George Ewens – his wife, Maxi, is marooned in Berlin – she misses him – while she’s been gone he’s got a new car, a new hearing aid and a new dentist

Lucky draw:  John Hammer’s number was drawn but he chose the wrong card and missed the $343 pot.
