President John Beal opened the meeting with the pledge and Kris Engstrom gave the devotional.
John announced that there would not be a meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 30. He also reminded everyone that they should register for the District Conference and the Rotary International Convention – both events next spring, one in Burlington and the other in Montreal.
Induction
Rosalyn Graham, Tod Whitaker, Membership Chair Debby Hanley, and President John Beal
Membership Chair Debby Hanley officiated at the induction of new (returning) member Tod Whitaker, a former member and president of Charlotte Shelburne Rotary. Tod is now the Manager of The Terraces Independent Living Retirement Community in Shelburne, and was formerly at Shelburne Museum and then had his own business. He is president of the Shelburne Business and Professional Association and organizer of Shelburne Day and Shelburne Farmers Market. Roz Graham was his sponsor. Welcome Tod.
Donations
John announced several donations that had been approved by the board and the membership voted to approve a $300 donation to each of the three local food shelves. Jim Spadaccini said that all the Christmas turkeys have been distributed to the local food shelves for their clients.
Thank you letters were received from ReSource (the former Recycle North) and the VNA.
Double Match
John reported that 14 of the 20 Double Match have been taken up by club members for a total of $2225.
Sergeant at Arms
Happy fines:
Trafton Crandall – a birthday and an anniversary
Jim Spadaccini – welcoming Tod to the club – and suggesting perhaps we should call ourselves a Retread Club because of so many returning members.
Terrell Titus – Don Condon is also a retread – she enjoyed babysitting her granddaughter – her company is having a Christmas luncheon
Howard Seaver – suggesting that CSR is a House of Last Retreat
Joan Lenes – just happy
Pat Sokolowski – her kids got home safely
Linda Gilbert – seeing a family of bobcats in her backyard
Sam Feitelberg – Kris’s good prayers
Colleen Haag – the role of the food shelves thanks to the generosity of the community and a donation from an 11 year old
Michele Lash – her birthday
Michael Lash – his wife’s birthday and their daughters are home
Ric Flood – Megan home
George Ewins – happy to have not lose money for a change
Kris Engstrom – only two days till she can rest
Terry Kennaugh – the bald eagle is back on Shelburne Point – the funny experience of translating a holiday message into Russian to send to international guests who have stayed with them and then translating the message back into English and finding how it had been scrambled
Lucky draw: Emily Morrow drew Robert Maynes’ number but he didn’t find the right card and didn’t win the $114.50 pot.
Thank You
Kris Engstrom and William Wissell
Kris Engstrom presented the thank-you basket from the club to William Wissell in appreciation for his great breakfasts and friendly service.
Santa
And then Ric Flood introduced Santa explaining that he was dressed for the golf games he would be playing this year instead of making house calls. Don entertained with clever / funny / embarrassing / witty / joke gifts and answers to Christmas wishes. You had to be there.
