Ric Flood’s Home on Soaring Hawk Lane

Changing of the Guard Party

The annual Changing of the Guard took place on a sunny, breezy Tuesday early evening with a great crowd, excellent food, many guests, and good fellowship.

Fine Food

Irv Rose and Robert Maynes cooked tuna and beef steaks on the grill – smelled great and tasted delicious – many thanks to them for their cooking talents. And Bravo for all the appetizers, salads, side dishes and desserts contributed by the club members.

Kris’s Sergeant at Arms Grand Finale

Kris Engstrom’s final performance as Sergeant at Arms exemplified the many reasons the club has enjoyed her two years as SaA … lots of laughter, a good joke (in this case it was a stroll down memory lane recalling all the risky behaviors we survived in the years before seatbelts, bike helmets and diet sodas), and Happy fines that underscored one of the best features of Rotary – the way our meetings are an opportunity to share our joys, concerns, accomplishments and pet projects.

The Happy fines included lots of reports on family visits, new grandchildren, birthdays, anniversaries and one remarkable milestone – Bill and Phyllis Deming celebrating their 58th anniversary.

In honor of the many special guests at the COG, the usual Lucky Draw took the form of a 50/50 Raffle. The first 11 tickets drawn won beautiful floral arrangements from the tables (from that renowned local florist In Full Bloom) and a Mag flashlight donated by Jimmy Fayette. The $85 prize of the 50/50 Raffle was won by John Hammer who promptly announced that his prize would be divided 50/50 between Hands to Honduras and his wife Dorrice. What a guy!

Changing of the Guard

Retiring President Steve Dates had cute joke gifts for each of the members of the Board, from a Golf Digest for Membership Chair Ric Flood, and a brick (for foundation building – get it?) for Foundation Chair Elaine Dates, a new trowel for Kris (who will have time to work in the garden now that she is not Sergeant at Arms), and a low-tech communications tool (paper and pencil) for PR Chair Rosalyn Graham.

Steve presented the official scepter and the Rotary Boxer Shorts to new President John Beal, and John presented Steve with a plaque in recognition of his great year as President.

Paul Harris Fellowships

Ric presented three Paul Harris Fellowships, the honors that recognize good work, often the quiet work that keeps things running smoothly, to Bruce Willetts.
